My current practice involves painting to a narrative.

social media
isolation
escapism
subconcious
psychological
My current practice involves painting with a narrative, my work explores social boundaries, environmental influences and a person being between two identities and the outcomes from being alone. I paint portraits based on myself to create a uncertain version of myself. My work questions whether people are uncertain of who they really are from being surrounded by society's influences. My work also explores the constraints of choosing to withdraw from the modern day and how social media plays a big part in this.
I tend to work figuratively with oil paint, the process and experimentation of paint is very important to my practice, I am determined to continue to develop a strong painting style and technique. My work usually consists of medium to large scale paintings which are built up of layered marks in order for a more abstract take on the painting and to give the painting a depth.
My most recent work is telling the story of a person situated in a hotel environment to seek time alone away from the everyday. I am influenced by the idea of a hotel environment from films and literature. My work explores the uncertain boundary between an unfamiliar place posing as a familiar place and the idea of being purposely surrounded by domestic objects and decor to make us feel like we are at home.
