What’s involved…
We are looking for a Lead Volunteer for our Chorley Art Group which meets weekly, on a block basis, every Friday afternoon from 1.30pm-3.30pm.

An exciting role for the right person, you will be a key link volunteer, working together with other volunteers to ensure the group is appropriately organised and runs smoothly. You will help to coordinate volunteers at the Art Group and help to support them in their role, liaise with staff and the group facilitator as well as help setting up the venue, welcoming and socialising with group members, and assisting with refreshments and housekeeping. The role will provide a great opportunity to develop your own skills, as well as learn new ones.

You will be required to handle money and sensitive information and be required to follow policy and procedure to respond to needs as they arise.

The role requires a regular weekly commitment (with breaks) to offer stability and consistency for the people attending and to help provide a quality service and enjoyable, gratifying activity. In addition there will be some additional time required for contact time with staff.

The role will be suitable if you…
  • Enjoy engaging with people and helping them to feel comfortable and enjoy themselves
  • Have previous group work experience and leading and supporting people to engage in meaningful activity
  • Have confidence and enthusiasm
  • Have excellent verbal communications skills, especially face to face
  • Have a knowledge of, or a willingness to learn about, dementia and its impact on people
  • Are comfortable volunteering as part of a team of volunteers and staff
  • Have good listening and literacy skills
  • Recognise the importance of confidentiality and can demonstrate this
  • Have a commitment to inclusion, treating people from all backgrounds with dignity
As part of the role you will need to be prepared to complete an induction into the role and attend relevant learning and development activities and support meetings.

The impact you’ll make…
You will help to enable people affected by dementia to socialise in a welcoming and non-judgemental environment, helping people to feel less isolated and experience an enjoyable activity helping towards their feeling of wellbeing.
