My current practice involves painting to a narrative. issues of the modern world social media isolation escapism subconcious psychological My current practice involves painting with a narrative, my work explores social boundaries, environmental influences and a person being between two identities and the outcomes from being alone. I paint portraits based on myself to create a uncertain version of myself. My work questions whether people are uncertain of who they really are from being surrounded by society's influences. My work also explores the constraints of choosing to withdraw from the modern day and how social media plays a big part in this. I tend to work figuratively with oil paint, the process and experimentation of paint is very important to my practice, I am determined to continue to develop a strong painting style and technique.  My work usually consists of medium to large scale paintings which are built up of layered marks in order for a more abstract take on t...

My current practice explores painting with a narrative, these narratives explore social identities and issues with themes of withdrawal and responding to an environment. I refer to literature and films to develop and explore my ideas. My most recent work is a series of paintings which respond to the idea of an individual being taken out of  society and placed in a hotel environment, The idea is for the character in the paintings is to explore themselves without the influence of society and the privacy of being withdrawn from social media. The paintings situate in a hotel environment, this environment was chosen from the influence of films and literature which explore the positive and negative effects of a person in isolation.  I respond to these ideas through painting with oils from a medium to large scale. I am ambitious with technique and I'm always keen to develop it.My paintings are built up of mostly individual unblended brushstrokes to show a depth by layering and de...

studio scholarship notes draft

I would like to apply for the studio scholarship as It would be beneficial to my artistic practice with having the routine a studio would provide along with the community of other artists. I also think the studio would provide opportunity for connecting with the art-world, and opportunities to get involved. The studio would give me opportunity to develop my painting skills and to improve on technique. I would be able to develop my artistic practice by experimentation and the space to practice. I would like to become more involved in local exhibitions and getting to know local artists. I would like to continue my practice in a space where there would be other practicing artists and to be part of an artistic community, I would also like to be involved with shows and gain further experience in order to put on shows myself and with other artists. My work needs to be studio based because I am working from medium to large scale oil paintings which require space for experimentation and to b...

Digital skills- website session

Image
From the digital skills session we were taken through the basics of WIX website builder. I now know how to navigate round WIX in order to build a website, dragging images in, inserting text, and linking buttons. I am now ready to make some test websites, the next step will be to photograph my work and prepare a small artist statement for the 'about' section of the website. I will continue to look at other artist websites and become familiar with them as I want my website to look like an artists website and to also look professional.
